Louisville Bats News Release

Louisville, KY - For the second consecutive night the Bats won by one run, squeaking by the Syracuse Chiefs 4-3, in front of 9,420 fans. Louisville has been scorching hot lately winning 12 of their last 14 games.

The Bats almost let a 4-1 lead slip away in the eighth inning. Syracuse threatened with back-to-back RBI singles by Robinzon Diaz and Matt Watson to decrease the margin to one run. With one out and the bases loaded Curtis Thigpen lined out to third base and Luis Bolivar quickly went to second for the double play, which kept the 4-3 lead in tact.

The Bats benefited from two errors in the second inning by Chiefs' first basemen Curtis Thigpen to jump to an early 2-0. Thigpen's first error occurred when he fielded a Luis Bolivar bunt and tried to prevent Kevin Barker from advancing to third but threw over the third baseman's head, which lead to the Bats first run.

Rob Mackowiak's 18-game hitting streak came to an end but Michael Griffin and Adam Rosales' respective hitting streaks continued. Griffin's streak is now at seven games, while Rosales continued his Jay Bruce-Esque hitting, extending his hitting streak to 11 games and now has multiple hits in 10 of his last 15 games.

Adam Pettyjohn (10-4, 4.72) picked up his tenth win of the season. He allowed five hits, one run and struck out five. The Bats bullpen combined for three innings, only giving up two runs and four hits. Jon Adkins entered in the ninth and preserved the Bats win while recording his 17th save of the season.

Chiefs Michael McDonald (1-3, 3.01) pitched 4.1 innings and he gave up nine hits, four runs and struck out one batter in the loss.

The Bats will begin a ten-game road trip tomorrow when they travel to Durham, NC to compete against the Durham Bulls, with first pitch at 7:05 pm. Friday's pitching match-up will feature Bats starting pitcher LHP Ben Jukich (0-0, 8.31) and Bulls RHP Wade Davis (1-0, 0.00).
