Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Chris Epps and Telvin Nash went deep as the JetHawks lineup broke out of its slumber to put up 10 runs and 12 hits on the Lake Elsinore Storm in a 10-4 victory on Thursday night at The Hangar.
The win snapped a three game losing streak and avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the Storm.
Epps blasted his home run, his second of the season, in the second inning off Storm starter Colin Rea (0-4) to give Lancaster a 3-0 lead.
Lake Elsinore came right back to tie the game in the third inning against JetHawks starter Aaron West. Cory Spangenberg doubled in a run and Yeison Asencio followed with a two-run single.
West was relieved by T.J. Geith (3-0) to start the fourth inning. He finished his night with three runs allowed on four hits, three strikeouts and a walk. Geith threw two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.
Lancaster pulled away, scoring runs in each of the first five innings. M.P. Cokinos hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to break the tie and the JetHawks put up three more in the fourth to pull away.
Epps, Joe Sclafani and Andrew Aplin all drove in runs in the fourth inning. Aplin's RBI gave him a Cal League-best 28 on the season.
In the fifth, Preston Tucker reached when his line drive was dropped by first baseman Justin Miller. The error set the stage for Nash, who belted his third home run of the season on a towering fly ball to left-centerfield.
Blair Walters, the piggy-back starter, allowed one run on two hits over three innings of work.
Travis Ballew pitched a scoreless ninth inning to finish the game.
Aplin finished his stellar night 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Nash walked twice to go along with his home run and Heineman added a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
The JetHawks (19-15) stayed a half game behind Inland Empire for first place in the South Division standings. Lancaster hosts the Stockton Ports on Friday night for the first of a four game series. First pitch is 7:00 pm.
Friday is Video Game Night at The Hangar. One lucky fan will go home with a brand new Playstation 3 and fans who bring a new or used video game to donate will receive free admission.
