Baseball, fireworks, Rickey wrap up Falcons' 2005 home slate

Surprise Fightin' Falcons News Release


The SURPRISE FIGHTIN' FALCONS will host a postgame fireworks show after Friday night's game against the RICKEY HENDERSON and the SAN DIEGO SURF DAWGS.

The City of Surprise is sponsoring the fireworks display to commemorate the final weekend of the Falcons' inaugural season in Surprise.

Saturday's doubleheader is DYSART UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT night with a WASHINGTON MUTUAL BANK-sponsored Charity Cash Scramble between games.

We will also be giving away 500 Rickey Henderson bobbleheads to early-arriving fans for Saturday's doubleheader. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Sunday's game is DARBY PHOTOGRAPHIC FALCONS TEAM POSTER NIGHT. The first 1,000 fans will receive a poster of this year's Falcons, the first in team history.

The Falcons first baseman and rightfielder enters the final week with an average over .400 for the season.

Wilson, a 15-year Minor League veteran who had a brief stint with the San Francisco Giants in 1996, has been over the .400 mark since mid-June.

A 30-game hitting streak that lasted all of June and the first three days of July helped Wilson collect Player of the Month honors in the Golden Baseball League. He has also been named Player of the Week for the Arizona Division twice.

Team Posters Coming Sunday 2005 Falcons Team Posters will be available Sunday.

The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive the first-ever team poster.

Plus, all Falcons players and coaches will be available prior to Sunday's game to sign the posters. So, arrive early to complete your 2005 Falcons autograph collection.

GBL Announces Playoff Format The Golden Baseball League's playoff format has been set.

The league's first championship tournament will be held Sept. 2-4 at Blair Field, the home of the Long Beach Armada.

The format for the Championship will be a double-elimination tournament with two games scheduled each day. Four teams will qualify for the playoffs, the two division winners and two wild card teams with the next best records across the league. The Championship Game will be a single-elimination game.

The Fightin' Falcons are still alive for one of the two "wild card" spots entering this week's play.

Two playoff games will be played Friday and Saturday with the first game beginning at 3 p.m. The second game will begin one hour after the completion of the first game. Sunday's first game is scheduled for a 1pm start, with the Championship Game following one hour after the completion of the first game.

Tournament tickets and day passes are available on-line at www.goldenbaseball.com, through all of the GBL Team sites, and through the Long Beach ticket office at 562-597-9787. Tickets range from $8-$15 per seat per day or you can purchase a tournament pass and save 15 percent.
