Reno Barons News Release

The Reno Barons has announced the franchise hired Anthony Bartley as the new defensive coordinator. Bartley's last position in football was in 2009 when he served as Co-Defensive Coordinator with the South Bay Skulls of the Labelle Community Football League (LCFL) in California.

"This is going to be an enjoyable season working with the Barons to lay a strong foundation," stated Bartley. "I look forward to working with Coach Harris and Coach Rogol to produce the best product possible for 'Barons' Nation.'"

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Bartley graduated from Lynwood High School in 1991. He finished high school as a three sport athlete competing in football, basketball, and track and field. A school record holder in the Triple Jump, he was crowned CIF Champion, Masters Meet Champion, and capped off a wonder high school career with a 3rd place finish in the state championship and a national championship. He then proceeded to Long Beach City College where he excelled further in track by qualifying for the 1992 trials qualifiers and finishing in the top ten nationally in the Jr. Nationals. He earned numerous championships ending his college career with a state championship in 1993. In 1994, Anthony joined the US Air Force. He moved to Germany in 1996 and later revamped his football career by making the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe as a walk-on. Released after week six, he then went into the GAFL leading the Dilligen Steelhawks (now Saarland Hurricanes) to a Südwest Bowl Championship rushing for 821 yards and nine touchdowns. Anthony moved back to the states to play in the semi-pro level for the Ventura County Cardinals under the great Bo Brooks. Anthony helped lead the Cardinals to the first of two CFA Championships for Brooks before his passing. Bartley got his first taste at professional football working as the Regional Vice President for the National Indoor Football League, General Manager and Head Coach for the Los Angeles Lynx.

"Coach Bartley is a proven champion both as a player and coach," stated Head Coach Major Harris. "Anytime, you have a coach or player on your staff or roster that has achieved the highest level in his league, it shows a tremendous amount of competence of the game and ability to produce. Coach Bartley is a welcome addition to our staff."
