Barons To Play Independent Schedule

January 19, 2011 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)
Reno Barons News Release

The Reno Barons, disappointed with the prospect of playing two possibly three competitive teams, have decided to play an independent schedule for their 2011 inaugural season.

Barons COO stated, "The agreement with the AIFA guaranteed four additional teams in the region and unfortunately, the AIFA West has not delivered."

When the agreement was announced, the Barons were to play Wyoming Cavalry, as well as Wenatchee Valley Venom, Yakima Valley Warriors, San Jose Wolves and possibly two other conference opponents. As of today, only three teams remain in the AIFA West.

The Barons have worked diligently over the past several months to build an experienced coaching staff and gather talented players to fill their roster, while waiting for the League to re-solidify. However, according to Head Coach Major Harris, "With the February 1st fast approaching, we decided it would be a disservice to our coaches, players and fans to continue to try to make a three team schedule work. The mission of the Reno Barons is better achieved through an independent schedule. We have promised Reno the best sports entertainment for their dollars and that's what we intend to deliver."

As part of the Barons 2011 schedule, the team will face the Stockton Wolves formerly San Jose Wolves. "We have had ongoing discussions with Stockton and are impressed by how they are operating," stated Barons General Manager Tim Pierce. "We expect to release our season schedule comprised of five other teams including Stockton early next week."

Tickets will be affordable. The action and entertainment will be the best possible for the money spent and there will be plenty of local players that will have the opportunity to further their football careers.
