Rochester, NY (August 26, 2007) - Philadelphia wins their second Major League Lacrosse Championship in two years after defeating the Los Angeles Riptide 16-13. Matt Striebel was named the Bud Light Championship Game MVP for his six-point performance (3G, 3A) giving the Barrage the extra push at the end of the game to secure their win.
Attackman Ryan Boyle got the Barrage on the board just one minute into game play, but Los Angeles did not waste any time in answering back with a goal from Michael Watson followed by another from Graham Gill. Jed Prossner scored his first to tie the game at two all. The Riptide scored again to get the go ahead run but then the Barrage went on a four goal run, giving them a three-goal lead to start the second quarter. Los Angeles scored three in a row bringing them within one goal but the Barrage had three unanswered goals to end the first half of play.
Los Angeles came out strong to start the second half of the game scoring two goals in a row, bring the deficit down to two. Seth Goldberg scored his second goal of the night, followed by a goal from Boyle. The Riptide scored three goals to tie the game at 11, then Chazz Woodson scored the go ahead goal, putting them up by one. Matt Striebel scored his first of three goals to tie the game at 12, and then went on to score his last two giving his team a two-goal lead with two minutes left in the game. Prossner sealed the deal for the Barrage with a goal at 13:54 giving the Barrage a three-goal lead that led to their second consecutive MLL title.
The Barrage is the first team in MLL history to repeat as MLL Champions. They have only made the playoffs three times and have a perfect 6-0 record. Philadelphia concluded their 2007 season with a 9-3 regular season record and another Eastern Conference Championship.
