
Barrage Pick Up Five In Collegiate Draft

Philadelphia, PA (June 1, 2006) - The Sixth Annual Warrior Major League Challenge took place yesterday at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. The challenge featured some of the top graduating college seniors playing in an all-star game under current MLL rules, including the 60-second shot clock. Following the game, a five round draft took place bringing 51 new players into the league.
Philadelphia chose midfielder Matt Zash from Duke sixth overall with their first pick in the draft. Zash was a two-time captain and MVP at Duke; he is dangerous offensively, defensively and facing off. Zash will help to strengthen the Barrage midfield in 2006. Midfielder Greg Peyser was selected ninth overall by the Barrage. Peyser had 11 goals and nine assists for Johns Hopkins in 2006. Peyser will add value to the Barrage because he can play both sides of the ball and can assists in face offs.
Wayne, Pennsylvania native Xander Ritz (A) was selected 27th overall by Philadelphia. Ritz was the 2006 Captain at Maryland. Ritz had 29 goals and 10 assists in the 2006 regular season. He recorded 5 goals and 1 assist in the post-season for the Terps. Pete Cannon (M) was selected in the fourth round (37th overall). Cannon had 12 goals and eight assists in the regular season for Georgetown and recorded two assists in the post-season. Cannon attended the Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania. Philadelphia rounded out the draft in the fifth round selecting goalie Joseph Canuso 47th overall. Canuso is a Moorestown, New Jersey native and was a two-year starting goalie for the Villanova Wildcats.
