Philadelphia Barrage News Release
Philadelphia, PA (May 1, 2006) - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today a coaching change for the 2006 Season. Paul Deniken, former scouting coordinator for the Barrage, was named Assistant Coach. John Nostrant, former assistant coach, will replace Deniken as Scouting Coordinator.
"We are fortunate to be able to replace the quality coach we had in Nostrant with a guy like Paul," General Manager, Keith Mecca, said. "I am happy that Nostrant will be able to stay with us as our Scouting Coordinator, Nostrant couldn't commit to the time dedications this year to coach."
"I am honored to be a part of the Barrage organization as assistant coach," Deniken said. "I look forward to working with some of the best lacrosse players in the game, as well as Tony, Tom and the rest of the staff. I can't wait for the first game."
Deniken played nine years with the Philadelphia Wings (1990-1998) where he was a member of four World Championship teams and holds the record of being the fifth all-time leading goal scorer. Deniken returned to the Wings as an assistant coach from 2002-2004. He was an USCLA All-Club team member, a member of the 2002 U.S. Men's Lacrosse team and a master's division champion. He was also a camp director for eight years at the Keystone All-Star Lacrosse Camp as well as a nine-year assistant lacrosse coach at West Chester East High School. He played lacrosse at Washington College where he was named an All-American. Deniken is a West Chester Henderson graduate.
Philadelphia opens their season on May 20th at historic Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by five games at Villanova University. Season tickets are on sale now.
