Barrage at a Glance: The Bridgeport Barrage will look to rebound off the 0-3 start against the Baltimore Bayhawks. The Barrage will be challenged in playing Baltimore who boasts an MLL-best 3-0 record. After the first three games, attackmen Matt Panetta (9g, 2a), Dan Denihan (6g, 4a) and midfielder Roy Colsey (7g, 1a) have paced the Barrage offense. The Barrage scored a franchise best 18 goals in the loss vs. Boston on 6/15 after scoring just a combined 15 goals in the first two games of the season. In their last game vs. Boston the Barrage took their first lead since the first quarter of the season opening game at Long Island on 6/2 (a span of seven quarters) with Matt Panetta's goal in the first two minutes of the first quarter. Panetta scored a team-record six goals in the game while Keith Cromwell and Dan Denihan each tied the Barrage team record for assists in a game (3). The Barrage set a team record by scoring 18 goals in the game (previous high was 17). However, the Barrage have now been outscored 14-5 in the fourth quarter this season.
One-Goal Heart Break: After falling to Boston 19-18 in overtime, the Barrage are now 1-6 all-time in games decided by a goal. In contrast, the Bayhawks are 6-0 in one-goal games since 2001. Baltimore defeated Bridgeport 12-11 in overtime last season. The Barrage have lost each of their three overtime contests this season.
Injury Report: Faceoff specialist and New Canaan native Andy Towers will miss tonight's game due to a hamstring injury suffered in the Barrage loss vs. Boston.
Highs & Lows: At 0-3 the Barrage are off to the worst start in the short history of the MLL while at 3-0 the Bayhawks are off to the best start in league history.
Frustrating 4TH : The Bridgeport Barrage have been outscored 14-5 in the fourth quarter this season.
2001 Season Summary: Last season, Bridgeport split their two-game series with each team winning on their home fields. In the first meeting on 6/17/02, the Barrage took the game 12-9 to even their record at 1-1. Baltimore won the second meeting in overtime, 12-11, on Kip Fulk's only goal of the game on 7/27/01. In the two games, Baltimore goalie Greg Cattrano posted a 66% save precentage (42 saves, 22 goals allowed). Matt Panetta led all scorers in the two game series with eight points (six goals, one two-point shot, one assist).
