Barrage Fall to the Bayhawks, 15-7

Bridgeport, Conn., June 21, 2002 - The Bridgeport Barrage, Connecticut's only professional lacrosse team and a charter member of Major League Lacrosse, fell to the Baltimore Bayhawks 15-7 before 3,685 fans on Friday evening at Dunning Field at Hawes Plaza at New Canaan High School.

Baltimore's Greg Cattrano, the BUD Light MVP, was stellar in goal making 25 saves including a game-high nine saves in the fourth quarter. Mark Millon (4g) and Gary Gait (3g, 1a) each posted hat tricks for Baltimore as they led the Bayhawks in a game that they never trailed. At 4-0, the Baltimore Bayhawks are off to the best start in MLL history. Paul Cantabene, the SOBE Iron Award winner, led Baltimore with 17 face-offs won to go along with one goal scored.

For the Barrage, Dan Denihan tied a team record with three assists while Roy Colsey added a pair of goals. Jim Mule made 13 saves for the Barrage.

Baltimore 's Mark Millon led Baltimore in the fourth quarter with two goals as their lead was only cut to six goals in the final quarter. In the first four games this season Bridgeport has now been outscored 17-6 in the fourth quarter.

The Bayhawks scored the first four goals in the third quarter on shots by Jude Collins, Mark Millon, Mark Frye and Sean Radebaugh to take a 10-5 lead en route to a 12-6 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Blake Miller ended that Baltimore run on a pass from Keith Cromwell that fed him the ball right in front of the crease. However, the Bayhawks matched that effort 45 seconds later on Radebaugh's second goal of the game.

Gary Gait completed his first half hat trick and Paul Cantabene added a goal only 19 seconds later for a two-goal flurry that gave Baltimore a 5-2 cushion in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Josh Sims added another goal for Baltimore minutes later giving the Bayhawks a 6-2 advantage. Bridgeport tallied two unanswered scores by Colsey and Matt Striebel to close the halftime deficit to 6-4.

Baltimore's Mark Millon kicked off Baltimore's scoring attack in the first quarter while Gary Gait added two goals of unassisted goals of his own to give the Bayhawks a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Bridgeport cut into Baltimore's early lead with a powerplay goal by attackman Keith Cromwell on a pass from Dan Denihan.

With the loss the Barrage fall to 0-4 on the season. Bridgeport will resume play tomorrow, Saturday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. when they visit the Baltimore Bayhawks to complete the weekend home and home series.
