Barrage Break Losing Streak

Philadelphia, PA (June 12, 2005) - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor lacrosse league, defeated the New Jersey Pride Saturday night in front of 3,105 fans at Kean University.

This marks the first win of the 2005 season for the Barrage who lost their first three games. Mike Levin, who was picked up by the Barrage earlier in the week had an excellent first game. He was named Bud Light MVP with a total of 21 saves on 31 shots.

The Barrage started off strong in the first quarter scoring four goals in row. Bobby Horsey and Ryan Boyle scored goals and B.J. Prager scored two goals for the Barrage. The Barrage kept the Pride to only one goal, which was scored by Scott Urick to round out the first quarter. The score at the end of the first was Philadelphia 4, New Jersey 1. The Barrage went 2-6 in face offs while the Pride went 4-6 in face offs. Levin had six saves on seven shots for Philadelphia and Scott Schroeder had three saves on seven shots for New Jersey.

New Jersey came out to win the opening face off of and Walid Hajj scored the first goal and only goal of the quarter for the Pride. The Barrage scored the next three goals; Horsey scored his second of the night at 9:43, Boyle scored his second at 8:13 and Matt Lucas scored the first goal of his MLL career with one second left in the half. The score at the end of the first half was Philadelphia 7, New Jersey 2. Philadelphia went 2-4 in face offs and New Jersey went 2-4 in face offs. Levin made four saves on five shots for the Barrage, and Schroeder made four saves on 10 shots for the Pride.

At the start of the third quarter, the Pride won the opening face off and Adam Doneger scored the first two-point goal of the night putting the Pride up to four. Doneger and Kyle Harrison scored two more goals before the Barrage could put one in the net. Boyle scored his third goal of the night and putting the Barrage up to eight. Mike LaMonica scored his first goal of the night for the Pride, but Matt Striebel answered back for the Barrage scoring his first of the night. Doneger scored his third of the quarter to end it. The score was Philadelphia 9, New Jersey 8.

Philadelphia went 4-8 in faces offs and New Jersey went 4-8 in face offs. Levin made six saves on 12 shots for Philadelphia and Schroeder had four saves on six shots.

Philadelphia came out strong to open the fourth quarter. Horsey scored his third goal of the night for the Barrage at 8:15. Prager scored his third of the night for the Barrage at 1:40. The Pride scored the last two goals of the game, one by Hajj at 1:19 and the other by Harrison at 37 seconds.

The final score was Philadelphia 11, New Jersey 10. Philadelphia went 2-5 in face offs and New Jersey went 3-5 in face offs. Doug Shanahan went 9-12 overall in face offs and Lucas went 1-1 in face offs for Philadelphia.

Jamie Hanford went 2-0 in face offs overall and Andy Corno went 10-10 in face offs overall for New Jersey. Levin made 21 saves overall on 31 shots and Schroeder made 17 saves overall on 28 shots.

Philadelphia leaders were Prager with four points (3G, 1A), Horsey with three points (3G), Boyle with three points (3G) and Striebel with two points (1G, 1A).

New Jersey leaders were Doneger with four points (3G, 1 2ptG), Harrison with two points (2G) and Hajj with two points (2G).

Philadelphia will see game action again on Saturday, June 25 against the Long Island Lizards at Mitchel Field at 7:00 p.m. The Barrage return home to Villanova on July 14 against the Rochester Rattlers at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available by calling the Barrage ticket office at (610) 355-8999 or by visiting TicketMaster.com.
