December 18, 2002 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Philadelphia Barrage News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. December 18, 2003) - The Bridgeport Barrage, Connecticut's only professional lacrosse team and a charter member of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), today released their tentative 2003 schedule and have placed season tickets, fundraisers and group packages on sale for the upcoming season.
The Barrage will open the 2003 season on the road on Saturday, May 31 at 7:35 p.m. vs. the Rochester Rattlers. During that match-up Bridgeport will be looking to post their first victory against Rochester in team history. Overall, the Barrage will play a home and home series with each team in the MLL accounting for a total of 10 of their regular season games. The two remaining Barrage regular season games will be played as a home and home series against Rochester, pairing both teams that fell short in qualifying for the playoffs last season. The four teams that did advance to the postseason (Long Island, Boston, Baltimore and New Jersey) will play their two remaining regular season games against each other. Each of those four teams will play a Division winner and a Wild Card team from the 2002 season.
"We are anxiously awaiting the start of the 2003 season," said Bridgeport Barrage Head Coach Sal LoCascio. "Last season, we positioned ourselves to build upon our team nucleus through trades and the collegiate draft. Now we expect that mix of young talent and veteran players that we have assembled to propel the Barrage to our most successful season."
The 13-week regular season will conclude with the 2003 Major League Lacrosse Championship Game on Saturday, August 23, one week prior to Labor Day Weekend. The time and date of the championship game, as well as all the details for the third-annual mid-season Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game, are being finalized and an announcement will be made in the next few weeks. The 2003 postseason format will remain the same by having four teams advance to the playoffs with a semi-final leading to a MLL Championship. The regular season champions from the American and National Divisions will host the semi-final games against wild card opponents who have posted the two next best overall records regardless of their Division.
"The Bridgeport Barrage have made a conscious effort to make some of our season ticket and group sales packages more affordable for our fans," said Bridgeport Barrage General Manager Ken Paul. "We would like to provide a greater entertainment value for Barrage fans who support the premier level of lacrosse talent demonstrated through Major League Lacrosse."
Full season tickets to the six 2003 Barrage games are currently available by calling 203-345-4800. Prices for full-season season tickets are as follows: Harbor Club Level, $110; Premium Sideline, $99; Goal Zone, $79. Barrage fans will receive a savings of $21 for Premium Sideline season tickets in 2003, a savings of over three dollars per ticket based upon last season's pricing. Group packages of 12 or more people are also being sold for $10 per person in the Goal Zone seating and $15 per person in the Sideline seating. This is the first year that the sideline seating will be available for group outings and the group rate for the Goal Zone seating has been reduced by two dollars per ticket.
Another group option accommodates 24 to 350 people and includes the all-you-can-eat buffet in the People's Bank Marina as well a great view of the action for $25 per person. The Barrage will also bring back fundraisers that include booklets that contain four vouchers redeemable at the Harbor Yard Box Office for Goal Zone seats. These fundraiser booklets are sold for $60 and offer a return of $20 to non-profit and community organizations for each voucher booklet sold.
