Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

The Jacksonville Barracudas are proud to announce that they have signed forward Greg Lecolst for the 2006-2007 season.

"Bringing Greg back into the fold was our top priority this summer," said Barracudas General Manager Gilles Richard. "He's been a great player for the Barracudas for a number of seasons now, and is a great person in the dressing room and in the community. He epitomizes the type of character Coach Allain and myself are looking for."

Lecolst was a bright light during a difficult 2005-2006 season for the Barracudas, scoring 9 goals and 29 assists as a defenseman and served as one of the team's Assistant Captains. Lecolst is a natural forward, and Barracudas Head Coach Rick Allain expects that he will be used primarily in that role.

"Greg's versatility in being able to play both forward and defense will prove to be invaluable as the season goes on and injuries occur," said Allain. "However, Greg has a natural scoring touch and great hockey sense, and we look forward to him playing a key role in our offense."

In the 2004-2005 season Lecolst split time between forward and defense, scoring 16 goals and 17 assists in 50 games. The Middleton, MA native's most productive season as a pro came in 2003-2004, as a member of the Miami Manatees. After being traded from the Barracudas early in the season, Lecolst went on to torch the WHA2 for 22 goals and 21 assists in 23 games.

Lecolst is a major signing for first-year GM Gilles Richard and new Head Coach Rick Allain, as they attempt to drastically improve a team that finished in last place and out of the playoffs in 2005-2006.

"Despite last season's result, Coach Allain and I feel that there was a solid core of players, especially at forward," said Richard. "There will be familiar faces brought back, along with some names that won't be very familiar to our fans, but will become fan-favorites as the season progresses."
