Barracudas Re-Sign 'The Strangler,' Add Two More

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Barracudas today announced the re-signing of winger Jay Niemiec, and the signings of goalie Nate Ziemski and center Klage Kaebel.

Niemiec, a 5'11", 185-lb. Assonet, Massachusetts native, a fan favorite affectionately known as "The Strangler," played in 17 games with the Barracudas last season scoring four goals while leading the team in penalty minutes (164).

"Jay's an intense competitor who worked hard right down to the finish of last season," Assistant Coach Brett Strot said. "He also brings that element of toughness," Strot added.

Ziemski, a rookie goalie from Duluth, Minnesota, spent the last three seasons with the University of Wisconsin Superior playing in 88 games averaging 2.22 goals against. Ziemski also played two games with the Barracudas last season.

"Nate's was a two-time All American goaltender in college. He's a hard working kid with very good fundamentals," Strot said.

Kaebel, a third year pro from Pekin, Illinois, spent the last two seasons with the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League.

"Klage is a very fast and strong skater who's going to add a lot of speed to the team," Strot said. "We are looking at quite a few players from last years roster, as well as some new faces," added Strot."

Kaebel and the rest of the Barracudas will play a 60 game schedule beginning in late October against the Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, Orlando Seals, and a yet to be named team in Central Alabama. The Barracudas will play their home games in the brand new 15,000 seat Veterans Memorial Arena.
