Barracudas Re-Sign Leading Scorer, Add Four More

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Barracudas Head Coach Ron Duguay today announced the re-signing of the leading scorer from last season, Jamie Miller. Also signed toady, center Lyle Steenbergen, wingers Jason Vermeulen and Jay McCabe, as well as defenseman Chad Gromek.

Miller, a 6'1", 200-lb. Saskatchewan native, led the Barracudas last season in goals (33), points (52) and was second on the team in penalty minutes (155).

"Jamie's a power forward who will provide goal scoring as he has NHL hands around the net. Also, if needed, will be very protective of his teammates on the ice," Duguay said.

Steenbergen, a second year pro from Sylvan Lake, Alberta, played 58 games last season with Tulsa of the Central Hockey League. The 6'1", 190-lb. center scored 30 points on 11 goals and 19 assists.

"Lyle is the kind of player we are looking for. He's a quality player and a good character guy," Assistant Coach Brett Strot said. "Lyle has good speed and is extremely creative with the puck. He will help add another dimension to the team."

Vermeulen, a 6'1", 190-lb. winger played 38 games last season with the Barracudas. McCabe, a 6'6", 200-lb. rookie out of Western Michigan University is the cousin of Barracudas John McCabe. Gromek, a 6', 230-lb. defenseman is a first year player from Maple Grove, Minnesota.

The Barracudas kick-off the WHA2 season November 7th on the road against the Alabama Slammers. The Barracudas home opener is Friday, November 28th at 7:05pm vs. Miami Manatees in the brand new Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
