Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Barracudas traveled south to Orlando tonight for their first and only exhibition game of the pre-season and lost to the Seals 6-4 at the RDV Sportsplex.

"It's always tough to lose," Assistant Coach Brett Strot said. "There were a few things we wanted to work on like defensive zone coverage and five-on-fives. We accomplished that and did some real good things."

Special teams are what did in the Barracudas as Orlando scored five power play goals.

"Obviously we've got to work on our special teams," Strot added. "We really haven't worked on that yet and it's obvious that Orlando had with their five power play goals."

One of the bright spots for the Barracudas was the line of Lyle Steenbergen, Klage Kaebel, and Chris Hackett who combined for seven points tonight.

"We knew that going in they'd be a big line for us," Strot said. "They each have great speed and they've gelled really well together already."

Steenbergen led the trio with three points (1 goal, 2 assists) while Kaebel had two points (1 goal, 1 assist) and Hackett added two assists.

"You like to look at the positives of the game and we picked up seven points, that's great but the important thing is we lost the game," Steenbergen said. "Even though we had a good effort, we'll look at that and what we have to do to improve."

After the game, the Barracudas released defenseman Bryan Isola and goaltender Jean-Francois Laniel. The current Barracudas roster sits at 18 players. The Barracudas must cut the roster to 16 skaters by opening night.
