Jacksonville Barracudas News Release
Jacksonville, FL (July 28, 2004) â Celebrate the kickoff of Hair Cuttery's 6th Annual Share-A-Haircut campaign with hockey great and Jacksonville Barracudas Head Coach, Ron Duguay and his wife supermodel/actress, Kim Alexis on Friday, July 30, at The Hair Cuttery in The Avenues Mall from 10 a.m. to noon. The campaign helps underprivileged children served by the Florida Department of Children & Families and other community-based agencies.
"I think the Jacksonville community and Hair Cuttery make a great team," said Duguay. "Being able to contribute to the team that is helping Jacksonville's children succeed is amazing."
Duguay, a 12-year NHL veteran, recently coached the Jacksonville Barracudas to the WHA2's 2003-2004 President Cup. He also has served as a color commentator for the NHL's Tampa Bay Lighting and appeared on numerous talk shows and television shows including Leeza, Beverly Hills 90210 and Hope & Gloria.
"It is rewarding to be part of a campaign that helps children feel good about themselves," said Alexis. "I don't think people realize how much having self-confidence can contribute to successfully achieving your goals."
Alexis, considered one of the world's first supermodels, has graced the cover of over 500 magazines, as well as appeared on numerous television shows and feature films, which include Saturday Night Live, Cheers and Holy Man, with Eddie Murphy. Alexis has also parlayed her extensive experience in front of the camera, physical beauty and lifelong commitment to fitness into speaking on women's health and fitness issues.
Duguay and Alexis will join children served by the Florida Department of Children & Families and Family Support Services of North Florida at The Hair Cuttery in The Avenues Mall on 10300 Southside Boulevard in Jacksonville. Duguay and Alexis will meet with the children as they receive the latest haircuts that will send them back to school feeling confident, looking good and ready to learn.
The 6th Anniversary Share-A-Haircut campaign kicks off on August 1 at all Hair Cuttery salons throughout the country. From August 1 â 15, for every child's haircut purchased at any Hair Cuttery salon in Jacksonville, Hair Cuttery donates a matching free haircut to an underprivileged child from the Florida Department of Children & Families, Family Support Services of North Florida, Family Matters of Nassau County, Clay & Baker Kids Net, Inc. and Family Integrity in St. Johns County, just in time for the start of the new school year. Share-A-Haircut was founded based on Hair Cuttery's philosophy of giving back to the community by doing what they do best â cutting hair.
In 1999, the Share-A-Haircut campaign was only in four communities; today, the program has expanded to include all 800 salons and 10,000 stylists across 13 states, using their talents and skills to give their clients the gift of self-esteem. More than 200,000 of this country's less fortunate children have been able to start their first days of school with a new look, positive attitude and renewed self-confidence thanks to Share-A-Haircut.
As a result, Hair Cuttery has donated more than $2 million in free haircuts nationwide since the program began in 1999. In Jacksonville, over 9,500 haircuts valued at $90,500 have been donated in the past 5 years. This year, Jacksonville's goal is to donate 2,500 haircuts valued at $25,000.
Season Tickets for the Jacksonville Barracudas 2004-05 season are on sale now and available by contacting the Barracudas office at (904)367-1423 or on the web at www.jacksonvillebarracudas.com.
