Orlando Rays News Release

ORLANDO -Orlando's offensive struggles continued as Birmingham limited the Rays to just two runs on the night, taking both games of the doubleheader the Birmingham Barons in front of 4,068 at Cracker Jack Stadium Saturday.

Birmingham grabbed game one 2-1 as the Rays stranded 11 runners on the game. Orlando finished with eight hits - one more than the Barons - but failed to cash in on numerous opportunities, leaving the bases loaded in the 4th inning and stranded two in the final frame. The Rays wasted another strong performance by their starting pitcher as lefty Jon Switzer (5-7) took the loss in a 7-inning, complete-game effort. He allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out five. Dan Grummitt went 2-3 for the Rays in a losing effort, while Juan Salas drove in Brooks Badeaux with the O-Rays lone run.

In the nightcap the Rays could muster only four hits as the Barons won 3-1 on the strength of Tetsu Yofu's six strong innings. Yofu (5-4) scattered six hits and allowed one earned run in his 6.0 innings of work, striking out five. Chairon Isenia went 2-3 for the Rays, while B.J. Barnes drove in the O-rays' lobe run.

The Rays head to Jacksonville tomorrow for a 6:05 meeting with the Suns. Orlando will send RHP Jim Magrane (6-3, 3.96) to the mound to face RHP Heath Totten for the Suns. After on off day on Thursday the Rays will return home on Friday for a three-game set with the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx.
