Banister Named Executive of the Year

Calgary Roughnecks Owner and Governor Brad Banister has been named Executive of the Year for the 2002-03 regular season. Banister led the Roughnecks franchise to outstanding improvements both on and off the arena floor during its second season of operation.
On the floor, the Roughnecks posted the most improved record of any team in the league. Calgary finished with a record of 9-7, a five game improvement from the team's 4-12 record during their inaugural season of 2001-02. The Roughnecks capped their accomplishments by earning the club's first-ever playoff berth.
The sports fans of Calgary took notice. Attendance at the Pengrowth Saddledome jumped to an average of 11,562, the fourth highest average in the league. Roughnecks home attendance grew considerably from the previous season's average of 8,781. In just their second season, the Roughnecks solidified themselves as a fixture on the Calgary sports scene.
Banister purchased the franchise in March of 2001, and has directed the operation from the beginning. Banister is a lifelong resident of the Calgary area, and has been a fixture in the local oil and gas industry for several years. The NLL Executive of the Year recently sold White Fox Environmental Services, his Calgary-based business. Banister also serves as General Manager of the Roughnecks, and coaches youth lacrosse at the Bantam and Novice levels.
National Lacrosse League awards are determined by a vote of the Governors, General Managers and Head Coaches of the twelve member clubs.
