Topeka Pilots News Release

The Topeka RoadRunners jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead but St. Louis managed to steal a 3-2 win in overtime on Friday night in St. Peters, MO.

A brisk paced first period saw the RoadRunners take a 1-0 lead on a Michal Pastor power play goal, a blistering slapshot from the blue line at 6:03. Topeka jumped ahead 2-0 when Kyle Sharkey was left alone in the slot where he buried a wrister high on the glove side of Tyler Green at 13:11 and the 'Runners held a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Emergency goaltender Cal Petersen, called up from the Chicago Young Americans Midget AAA team was outstanding, turning aside all 11 Bandit shots in the first period including a breakaway and several from close range.

St. Louiscut the lead in half at 5:17 of the second when Cody Ganchar deflected a Taylor Wolfe shot into the top corner on the power play and the second period ended with Topeka 's lead trimmed to 2-1.

Topekahad a chance to put the game away on a late odd man rush with an empty Bandit net but the attempt was deflected away and play continued. The 'Runners effectively ran the clock down in their own end until the final seconds but with 3.0 seconds remaining, the puck was slid out from behind the goal line to Taylor Wolfe who punched it home to tie the game at 2-2, sending it into overtime. Then, in the final minute of overtime, Ryan Stouffer took the puck from the right wing corner and slipped it in front where it found its way to the back of the net for the stunning 3-2 Bandit overtime win.
