ROSEMONT - The Chicago Bandits have signed infielder Abby Ramirez to a one-year extension, team officials announced Wednesday afternoon.
Ramirez put together a strong campaign in 2018 and posted a .340 batting average across 41 games. The Chicago native matched her 17-hit total from her rookie season and maintained an impressive .377 on-base percentage.
"Abby has contributed in a wide variety of ways throughout her first two years in Chicago," Bandits general manager Toni Calmeyn said. "Her strong presence in the dugout and willingness to be a team player speaks volumes to her as a pro."
Ramirez signed with the Bandits prior to the start of the 2017 campaign after she concluded her senior season at the University of Michigan. She recorded a pair of hits, one RBI and one run scored in her professional debut June 7, 2017, against the Beijing Shougang Eagles.
As a second-year infielder, Ramirez went on a 5-for-9 tear to open the 2018 season and helped guide the Bandits to a franchise-record 18-0 start. Her two-hit performance against the Aussie Spirit on the one-year anniversary of her debut helped propel the Bandits to a 12-0 victory.
Ramirez, the 2013 Illinois Gatorade Softball Player of the Year out of Trinity High School, enjoyed tremendous collegiate success at Michigan. She garnered NFCA All-Great Lakes Region honors three times, including first-team recognition as a senior. The Wolverines clinched two berths in the Women's College World Series during Ramirez's decorated career.
The four-time Cowles Cup champion Chicago Bandits will be back at Parkway Bank Sports Complex for the 2019 season. For more information about the Chicago Bandits or to reserve your season tickets, please visit chicagobandits.com or call the box office at 877-722-6348.
