The River Bandits 2012 schedule is now official, complete with game times. The team's defense of its Midwest League Championship will begin at home on the first Thirst-Day Thursday of the season, April 5, with a 7 p.m. start against the Kane County Cougars.
April will feature a pair of weekend homestands with a mid-week series against in-state rival Clinton April 16-18. Eastern Division foes making the trek to Modern Woodmen Park this season are West Michigan, South Bend, Fort Wayne and Lake County.
The 2012 slate features 11 weekend series. Fireworks will return following all 11 Friday games. Thursday drink specials will be back for each of the 11 Thursday contests.
The Cubs-Cardinals rivalry will again be played out at the Single-A level between the Bandits and the Peoria Chiefs. Peoria comes to the Quad Cities May 5-8 and returns again July 31-August 3. The first half of the season will wrap up with division foe Wisconsin on Sunday, June 17. The regular season home schedule ends on Friday, August 31 against Kane County. The playoffs are set to begin on Wednesday, September 5.
There will be a slight change to game times in 2012, affecting only Sunday matches. The first three Sundays from April through May will each begin in the afternoon sun at 2 p.m. Beginning in June, for the final seven Sunday games, first pitch will be pushed back to 5 p.m. The standard start times for Monday-Saturday games will remain 7 p.m. with a few exceptions. The first three Mondays of the season will all begin at 11 a.m. to accommodate the ever-popular Book Buddies reading program. Tuesday, July 3 will have a special 6 p.m. start to allow for the game to be completed prior to Davenport's Red, White and Boom Independence Day celebration. Wednesday, August 1 will be a business person's special 1 p.m. start.
