Chicago Bandits News Release

ROSEMONT, Illinois - Aug. 23, 2012 - Last year, Monica Abobtt shared the honor of being named Pitcher of the Year with the USSSA Pride's Cat Osterman. This year however, there were no doubts as to who would take home the top honor as Abbott earned sole ownership of the award at the 2012 NPF Awards Banquet.

Abbott started 15 games this season with 14 of them going complete for a total of 125.2 innings pitched including two no-hitters. Her 14 wins, 190 strikeouts and seven shutouts led the league while her 1.06 ERA was second to only Cat Osterman.

Megan Wiggins finished the 2012 regular season as the league leader in home runs (12) as she was named the Home Run Champion. Finishing the season with a .299 batting average, she also led the league in runs scored with 38 and finished third in RBIs with 33.

Amber Patton, a speedy and solid fixture in the Bandits lineup, tied with Akron's Sharonda McDonald for the league lead in stolen bases with 13 as both took home the Spikes Stolen Bases Award. Patton finished the season with a .343 batting average including 23 runs and 16 RBIs. She also took home the Co-Defensive Player of the Year award along with Akron's Kelley Montalvo. Spending her season at third base for the Bandits, Patton finished with 48 put outs and 67 assists, along with a .991 fielding percentage.

Vicky Galindo joined Abbott, Wiggins and Patton as the team's four All-NPF Selections. Galindo finished the regular season with a .260 batting average, 32 hits, 25 runs, seven RBIs and three triples.

As the No. 2 seed the Chicago Bandits will take on the No. 3 seed Carolina Diamonds in game one of the NPF Championship Series tonight at 6:00 CT at the Ballpark at Rosemont. To purchase tickets for the Championship Series, contact the box office at 877-722-6348.
