Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release
January 14th 2009 - Baltimore, MD - Crystal Palace Baltimore defender Paul Robson has arrived in London, England to try out for the Crystal Palace UK squad at the invitation of the English club's coaching staff. The Football League Championship side has been looking for players to shore up their defense as they continue their push for the playoffs and a spot in the English Premier League next season.
"This is great opportunity for Paul of course, and bolsters one of our missions, to send players over to Palace UK." said Pete Medd, President and Co-Manager. "He's an excellent player - not so long ago, he was with Premiership outfit Charlton Athletic for three years. But had some bad luck with injuries and so he never made it beyond their reserves. We hope he'll do really well now that he's back to the top of his game."
Sporting Director and Co-Manager, Jim Cherneski added: "We believe Paul is one of the best defenders playing in this country, so it's natural that we would try and promote him this way. We think he'd be a find for any Major League Soccer team, or any team in England in fact."
Robson, a native of Hull, England, signed for Palace Baltimore in 2008, instantly establishing himself as a key component of the team's highly regarded back line. Playing at either right back or left back, he made 22 appearances and notched 4 assists in all competitions. Robson previously played for English clubs Charlton Athletic and Doncaster Rovers, and American side the Long Island Rough Riders.
The Crystal Palace Baltimore squad continues to prepare for the upcoming USL2 season with a full schedule of practices and strength training sessions. New players are expected to join the squad over the coming weeks, some of whom are expected to be identified during Palace Baltimore's official combine/tryouts which take place from February 3-5, 2009. The deadline for prospective players to submit applications for the combine is January 20, 2009. All the details can be found on the Palace Baltimore website at http://www.crystalpalaceusa.com
Fans will be pleased to learn that Crystal Palace Baltimore will announce their 2009 USL2 season schedule on Monday January 19, 2009.
