
Bakersfield Blitz Announce Team Honors

Bakersfield - The Bakersfield Blitz announced their team awards at the Annual Team Awards Banquet on Sunday, August 6. Award recipients were voted on by Blitz coaches and teammates.
OL/DL, Dwayne Parker-Draughon (6'3, 320, Tuskegee Univ.) was honored with the Blitz Newcomer award. As a rookie, Parker-Draughon played in 12 games in the regular season, recording 9.5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss of 5 yards, 1 sack for 5 yards, and 1 blocked kick. In the game against Central Valley on July 15, Parker-Draughon had an interception return and ran 25 yards into the end zone for a touchdown.
OL/DL, Daniel Kegler (6'3, 275, Univ. of New Mexico) was honored with the Blitz OL/DL Most Valuable Player award. As part of the af2's top defense, Kegler recorded 34 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss of 59 yards, 1 forced fumble, and 1 blocked kick. Kegler finished the regular season ranked number ten in the af2 for 7.5 sacks for 48 yards.
DS, Alex Wallace (6'1, 195, Idaho St.) was honored with the Blitz Defensive Most Valuable Player award. Wallace led the Blitz defense with a total of 11 interceptions for 73 yards, ranking number one in the af2. He also recorded 51 tackles and 2 received fumbles. Wallace received the weekly af2 honor of ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in week 5 against the Stockton Lightning.
WR/DB, DeRonn Finley (5'9, 180, Idaho St.) was honored with the Blitz Team Ironman award. Constantly playing well on both sides of the game, Finley totaled 41 tackles, 4 interceptions for 60 yards, and 3 forced fumbles on defense. On the offense side, Finley had 5 rushing touchdowns for 49 yards, 13 reception touchdowns for 742 yards, and 43 kick returns for 907 yards. He received the weekly af2 honor of U.S. Army Ironman of the Week twice for his outstanding performance in week 2 against the Spokane Shock and in week 16 against the Everett Hawks.
FB/LB, Ben McCombs (6'4, 260, Mid-American Nazarene) was honored with the Blitz Coach's award, an award only voted on by the Blitz coaching staff. Defensively, McCombs accumulated 34.5 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss of 43 yards, 1 interception for 7 yards, 1 forced fumble, and 1 blocked kick. McCombs finished the regular season ranked ninth in sacks for a total of 8. On the offensive side, McCombs had 4 rushing touchdowns for 56 yards and 1 reception. McCombs was recently named Blitz Player of the Month for the month of July.
OS, Rennard Reynolds (6'2, 195, Alcorn St.) was honored with the Blitz Offensive Most Valuable Player award. Reynolds led the Blitz with 106 receptions for 1463 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also recorded 1 rushing touchdown. Reynolds was honored by the af2 with the Cutters Catch of the Week for a reception that sent him flipping over the wall for a touchdown.
OL/DL, Jerry Turner (6'3, 270, Tenn. Tech. Univ.) was honored with the Blitz Team Most Valuable Player award. Turner has accumulated 27.5 tackles and 16 tackles for a loss of 90 yards. Turner led the Blitz defense with 16 sacks, ranking number one in the af2. He was also honored by the af2 for his powerhouse moves in week 11 against the Tennessee Valley Vipers with the ADT Defensive Player of the Week.
The Blitz will be on the road again as they travel to Washington to battle the first seeding playoff team, the Spokane Shock in the Conference Semifinals. The game will be on Saturday, August 12. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Spokane Arena.
