Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
Some things in life just feel right. For Thomas Bailey, being back with the Grand Rapids Rampage feels terrific. Bailey, who is returning to the Rampage after playing for three different teams in the last three years, hopes that Grand Rapids is his last stop.
"It feels great to be back, I started my career here and now hope to end it here," said Bailey.
Not only is Bailey excited to be playing for the Rampage; he is thrilled to play at Van Andel Arena. "The fans here are awesome," he commented, "I just can't wait to run out of that tunnel at Van Andel again, that is the best feeling in the world."
Bailey, who will be a Wide Receiver/Linebacker this season, played for the Grand Rapids Rampage from their inaugural season of 1998 through 2000. During his first-stint with the Rampage, Bailey posted some impressive numbers, including 289 receptions for 3,359 yards and 59 touchdowns. In 1999, Bailey was named team MVP when he set a team record for receptions with 133, a mark that still stands.
Before signing with the Rampage this off season, Bailey played for Orlando in 2001, Buffalo in 2002, and spent 2003 with Detroit.
A more experienced Bailey knows his role. "I know that I am a veteran now so I have to teach the younger guys the tempo of the game. I know that I am not the main target anymore, that is Steve Smith, but when they call my number I will be ready - I am in the best shape of my life," Bailey said excitedly.
Spending time in the off-season with Head Coach Bob Cortese has helped Bailey prepare for the season. "I feel that I have learned more in this off-season than I have learned in the previous six years of my career. I have concentrated on reading coverages and studying film", added Bailey.
Many people around Grand Rapids are excited to have Bailey back. However, none more so than Michael Baker; Bailey's best friend and former teammate. Baker is now the Rampage's Director of Player Personnel and Receivers Coach. Back in the early years, Baker and Bailey formed a prolific receiving tandem affectionately known as "The Killer B's."
"Thomas is a great competitor and an outstanding football player", Baker said.
Bailey also is excited to be back with Baker.
"I can't be more exited, Baker is the guy who taught me the game and now he is coaching me. He is a type of person you would go to war with", Bailey said.
With the Killer B's reunited in Grand Rapids, you can feel the buzz.
