Backfield Duo Named High School Ironmen of the Week

San Diego Riptide News Release

Brandon Resch and Alex Peltier, the starting running back and fullback respectively for the Santa Fe Christian Eagles, have been named the Co-sandiegoriptide.com Ironmen of the Week for their outstanding two-way performance in the Eagles' 43-21 win over Coronado. Both players also start as inside linebackers for the team.

"We normally would have named just one Ironman, but these two players had remarkable games offensively, defensively and even on special teams that propelled their team to victory, so we decided to name both of them as our Ironmen of the Week," said Riptide Head Coach Cree Morris, who will be visiting the Eagles' practice on Friday afternoon to present the two with certificates for their accomplishments.

Both will be honored prior to the Riptide's 2003 home opener with all the weekly award winners and the Ironman of the Year. The entire Santa Fe varsity football team will receive tickets to that game to support their teammates. Additional tickets to that game will be available at discounted rates for family members, friends and classmates.

Resch, a 6'0" 190-pound senior, rushed for 245 yards on just 15 carries (16.3 yards per carry) and had two touchdowns called back - one for an inadvertent whistle and the other on a holding penalty. Defensively, he had seven tackles. Resch also handles all of the Eagles punting duties; he had four punts averaging 38 yards apiece.

He missed the entire 2001 season due to a collarbone injured suffered on the season-opening kickoff. He later re-injured it trying to make a return to the field. Resch is also an Ironman off the field as he maintains a 3.75 GPA with the hopes to playing for USC next year and helps build houses in Mexico with his church.

“I wanted to make up for last year and come out there and give everything for my team,” said Resch, who played every play except kickoffs. “I prefer playing both ways because I never want to be on the sidelines.”

Peltier, a 5'9" 185-pound junior, made his first career start on offense, bruising his way to 145 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, then defensively, he tallied eight tackles. After the team's usual kicker left the game with a concussion, Peltier took over the kickoff duties. Last year, Peltier started every game at linebacker, earning Second Team All-League honors. This was his first time starting on both sides of the ball.

“As long as I’m in the game, I’m going to go out and give my all,” said Peltier. “ It gets hard sometimes being in on every play, but I won’t have it any other way.”

Santa Fe Christian is the defending Division IV state champions. Their next game is this Saturday vs. Christian High at Granite Hills High School (1719 E. Madison Ave., El Cajon 92019) at 7:30pm. To view and track the Eagles 2003 schedule/results click here.
