Bradenton Marauders News Release

BRADENTON, Fla. - The Marauders were unable to hold onto three separate leads Saturday night, and a two-run eighth inning for Clearwater proved to be the turning point in a 7-6 Marauders loss at LECOM Park.

The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Marauders (58-34) and snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Threshers (40-50).

With one out in the top of the eighth inning and Bradenton leading, 6-5, Marauders reliever Justin Meis (0-1) allowed a triple to Juan Aparicio. Freylin Minyety followed with a game-tying RBI-single, and after a walk and a throwing error loaded the bases for Clearwater, Meis threw a wild pitch that allowed Minyety to race home with the go-ahead run.

Relievers Matt Russell (1-1) and Jason Ruffcorn held Bradenton bats scoreless over the final two innings to preserve the win for the visitors.

Jase Bowen helped lead the way for the Marauders offensively, driving in three runs with a pair of doubles.

Bowen and Kyle Wilkie lined RBI-doubles in the second inning for a 2-0 Bradenton lead, but the Threshers jumped ahead, in the fourth. Starter Jared Jones, who retired seven batters in a row to begin his start, saw the bases fill on a pair walks and a single. After a strikeout, Jones issued back-to-back bases-loaded walks before yielding to reliever Carlos Campos, who surrendered a Casey Martin two-run single to put Clearwater in front, 4-2.

Bowen promptly tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run double, and the Marauders regained the lead, 5-4, in the fifth, when Ernny Ordonez singled and later scored on a wild pitch by Griff McGarry.

The lead did not hold. The top of the seventh saw Campos allow a one-out double to Clearwater's Luis Garcia, and after Ryan Troutman took over for Campos, a Jared Carr double re-tied the score, 5-5.

Bradenton instantly retook the lead for the third time in the bottom of the seventh, as Wilkie doubled, took third on a wild pitch, then scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Acuna. But the comeback would be the Marauders' last, as the eighth inning brought the Threshers' go-ahead tallies against Meis.

The series concludes Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at LECOM Park. RHP Logan Hofmann will start for the Marauders against a yet-to-be-determined starter for the Threshers.
