The fourth seeded Binghamton Senators will face-off against the fifth seeded Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs starting Saturday night in Binghamton.

The B-Sens enter the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series familiar with this divisional foe, having already faced the Penguins ten times in the regular season. Binghamton has dominated the season series, posting a record of 6-2-0-2. However, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has had Binghamton's number of late, taking the last three games with two of those wins coming at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Penguins finished the regular season in third place in the East Division with a record of 42-30-2-2 (88 points); eight points behind Binghamton and nine points behind division leader Syracuse.

All-Star center Chad Kolarik led the way for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during the regular season. He ended the year tied for third in the American Hockey League in points with 68. Kolarik also leads the Penguins in goals (31) and assists (37). Kolarik joined Wilkes-Barre from Connecticut after the New York Rangers traded him to the Pittsburgh Penguins. As a result he only appeared in four games against the B-Sens this season as a Penguin; in those four games though Kolarik has collected six points (two goals, four assists).

B-Sens forwards Hugh Jessiman and Shane Prince have had some success this season against the rival Penguins during the regular season, each tallying four goals apiece. Prince also added an assist against the Pens for a total of five points, the most tallied against Wilkes-Barre by any active player on the B-Sens roster.

Through the season series, the B-Sens have outscored the Penguins 26-21. From Dec. 14 through Feb. 12, Binghamton won five straight games against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, while outscoring them 18-7.

The B-Sens do boast a strong penalty kill when facing the Penguins. Binghamton has killed 92.3% (60/65) of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's power play opportunities.

Although B-Sens starting netminder Nathan Lawson is 0-1-0-1 against the Penguins this season, he has fared quite well. Lawson has compiled a .913 save percentage, while only allowing six goals on 69 shots this season.

SENS SNIPPETS...

Rookie Defenseman Cody Ceci scored his first career professional goal on Sunday in a 5-1 victory over the Syracuse Crunch. Ceci appeared in the B-Sens' final three regular season games, recording one goal and one assist and ending the season a plus-2.

Also during Sunday night's decisive 5-1 win in Syracuse, Center Derek Grant scored the game-winning goal, giving him the team lead in that category with five. Grant also finished the year leading the team in goals (19) and shorthanded goals (5). He has appeared in 63 games for Binghamton this season.
