Austin Aztex News Release

ST. LOUIS (www.austinaztex.com) - A 93rd minute goal by AC St. Louis' 16-year old striker Luis Gil on Saturday at Anheuser Busch Stadium sent the Aztex to a 2-1 defeat on a weekend when all three of the top teams in the USSF D-2 Pro League lost.

The Aztex (14-5-8) offense stalled all night long with just four first-half shots against an opponent that they managed to fire off 27 shots on goal in their last meeting.

Austin started the game with five reserves in the starting 11 and never quite gelled through the contest. The first half ended scoreless with just one corner kick for both teams combined and Sean Kelley's first save of the season. Saturday's match was also the first time this season that Aztex goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo was not on the pitch.

AC St. Louis (7-12-8) opened the scoring in the second half with a goal by Brad Stisser, which stood until the 91st minute when Eddie Johnson tied the game up, seemingly sending the Aztex to their second straight draw. The goal was Johnson's 14th of the year, now just one behind Portland's Ryan Pore for the league lead.

Three minutes into stoppage time, Luke Kreamalmeyer set up the go ahead goal for Gil. Kreamalmeyer made a run towards the top of the penalty area before sliding a pass to his right for the onrushing Gil who finished with a clean shot inside the far post. The goal was the first for Gil, on-loan from Real Salt Lake, as a professional.

Austin did not lose any ground on Rochester though after the Rhinos' defeat at home against Miami FC on Friday night. The Aztex next chance to catch Rochester is on Saturday at home in a rematch against AC St. Louis.
