Azocar Equalizes for the Toros in Austin

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (6-3-3) earned a draw 1-1 at Austin Bold FC (4-3-4) in a midweek clash at Bold Stadium.

Kofi Sarkodie scored the first goal of the match to give Austin a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute after connecting with Stefano Pinho's headed pass, finishing to the bottom left corner.

The Toros equalized in the 62nd minute after Juan Carlos Azocar received a through ball by Rodrigo Lopez where Azocar was able to take Jermaine Taylor cutting inside and finishing to the right back corner, 1-1.

The first half was kept 0-0 by both ends. in the 10th minute Azocar tested Austin after sending a headed shot from the center of the box but missed to the left. One minute later, Carter Manley sent a right footed shot from the right side of the box but missed to the right side.

In the 22nd minute, Alasanne Ates Diouf sent a long shot to the left side but was blocked. Right after Xavier Baez took a shot from outside the box but was sent too high following a set piece situation. In the 35th minute Diouf tested the Toros once again after a headed attempt but it was saved in the bottom left corner. Pihnho had two dangerous attempts before heading into the half but failed to capitalize twice.

Though the Toros were trailing to begin the second half, Christian Sorto, Lopez and Wan Kuzain had back-to-back opportunities but all were not able to finish. Emilio Ycaza had a right footed shot from outside the box but missed to the left in the 78th minute.

In the 85th minute Alexis Cerritos managed to send a shot from outside the box sending it too high and wide to the left side of the goal.

Collectively, RGV FC finished the night with nine total shots and only one shot on target that was scored. The Bold had 13 total shots with three on target. The team had a 52.7% possession throughout the match while Austin had 47.3%.

Kuzain, Lopez and Azocar all had two total shots each while Juan David Cabezas was able to have three key passes with three created chances and five tackles.

Adrian Diz Pe led the defensive efforts for RGV as he totaled four clearances, two tackles and one interception. At goal, Tyler Deric collected two saves tonight.
