May 16, 2014 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Minnesota Axemen News Release

Bemidji, MN - The Bemidji Axemen are traveling to Sioux Falls, SD to take on the Sioux Falls Storm, reigning IFL champions and one of the most storied franchises in indoor football. This will be the first matchup between the two teams.

The Axemen are coming off of a loss to the Tri-Cities Fever, their Intense Conference counter-part, 51-50 last weekend while Sioux Falls is undefeated on the season. The closest contest for the Storm came last week as they beat the Cedar Rapids Titans 48-36.

After Axemen wide receiver Nick Truesdell joined the Green Bay Packers for rookie mini-camp this week, the Axemen will welcome a few new faces to the roster this week including WR David Lewis and OL Anthony Barth.

Before signing with the Axemen, Lewis played for the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League. Collegiately, Lewis played at Southern Illinois University where he played in all 11 games as a senior in 2012, recording 27 receptions for 315 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Bemidji will continue to be led by quarterback Cody Kirby. Through four games for the Axemen, Kirby has completed 71 of 109 passes (65.1 percent) for 959 yards, 21 touchdowns, and a pair of interceptions. Kirby's favorite target, Axemen receiver Ryan Balentine, continues putting up All-IFL numbers, recording 50 receptions for 781 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Sioux Falls will be led by quarterback Chris Dixon. Dixon, three-time IFL Most Valuable Player, has completed 128 of 214 passes for 1,443 yards and 36 touchdowns through nine games this season.

Defensively, the Storm are led by reigning IFL Defensive Player of the year Tyler Knight. Knights has recorded 103 tackles through nine games, good enough to lead the IFL. Knight has also tallied 14.5 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, four blocked kicks, and an interceptions returned for a touchdown earlier this season.

Kickoff is slated for 7:05pm CST on Saturday, April 19 from the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, IA. The game will be broadcast on AM 870 KPRM and AM 820/103.1 FM WBKK. A webcast can also be seen online at AmericaOneSports.com.
