Minnesota Axemen News Release

Bemidji, MN - The Bemidji Axemen have brought another NFL-caliber player to the team with the announcement of former Buffalo Bills running back Chris Douglas being signed to a contract for the 2015 season.

Known as a speedy back with great vision and a powerful running style, Douglas most recently earned an invitation to compete with the Buffalo Bills in training camp before being sidelined with an injury. Looking to get back to the game he loves, Douglas will provide an immediate boost to the Axemen rushing attack.

"Running backs are a very big part of our offense, that's why it is going to be the toughest position in training camp," Axemen head coach Dixie Wooten stated. "Chris is a back that can do it all. He is an NFL-caliber running back with great hands. He brings experience to an experience-driven game. He is a big-time running back."

Prior to his time with the Bills, Douglas played with Axemen quarterback Cody Kirby at Missouri State University. After being selected to the All-MVFC preseason team his senior year, Douglas finished the season with 511 rushing yards and three touchdowns while also adding a pair of receiving touchdowns. His most impressive season for the Bears came during his junior year when he notched 1,051 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.

Before playing at Missouri State, Douglas played one season with Pasadena City College where he helped his team to a 6-4 record as a true freshman, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. He was also the primary kick returner for the team, where he posted a 20.9 yard return average.

In high school, Douglas played at Peach Tree High where he helped lead his team to an 11-3-1 record and a share of the Georgia Class 5A state title. A leader on the team, Douglas earned Gwinnet Prep Rally Player of the Month honors as a senior.

The Bemidji Axemen kick off their season in February of 2015 on Palace Casino Field at the Sanford Center. Season tickets are now on sale starting as low as $56 each and can be purchased online through www.bemidjiaxemen.com. For more information, please contact the Axemen offices as (218)444-8216.
