
Axemen fall to the Storm 66-42

Bemidji, Minn. (Sanford Center) - The first Indoor Football League game of the season started off with a high scoring affair where the Sioux Falls Storm defeated the Bemidji Axemen 66-42.
The Axemen scored first on a 4-yard pass from Terrance Owens to Ryan Balentine but then the Storm scored 35 unanswered points. The scoring drought was ended when the ball was tipped by Ino Vitale at the line and Jajuan Harley intercepted the ball and ran it back 21 yards for a touchdown. The Storm added three points right before the half when Parker Douglass kicked a 32-yard field goal.
At halftime the Storm led 38-12 along with having 166 total yards while the Axemen had 59 total yards. Tory Harrison of the Storm had 62 yards rushing in the first half to go along with two touchdowns.
In the second half the Axemen outscored the Storm 30-28 including a 48-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Mulku Kalokoh. Quarterback Terrance Owens left the game early in the fourth quarter with a head injury which led to the IFL debut of EJ White. White was 5-7 for 60 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
The Storm finished with 287 total yards (129 rushing, 158 passing) and the Axemen with 164 total yards (17 rushing, 147 passing). The Storm blocked three kicks and created one turnover. Terrance Owens led the Axemen in passing with 102 yards and rushing with 11 yards. Josh Jarboe led the team in receiving yards with 68 and one receiving touchdown. Kalokoh led the team with 82 all-purpose yards.
The Storm were led by Martevious Young who was 12-17 for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Tory Harrison led the Storm in rushing with 91 yards and 4 touchdowns. Judd Harold led the Storm with 78 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The Axemen will host the Iowa Barnstormers on March 13 next at the Sanford Center in Bemidji.
