Minnesota Axemen News Release
Bemidji, MN - The Bemidji Axemen are pleased to announce the signing of running back Richard Stokes and defensive end/linebacker Jordan Morgan.
Stokes, the Erie, PA native, comes to the Axemen after a stellar season with the Erie Explosion of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL), where he helped the team win the 2013 CIFL Championship. During his time with the Explosion last year, Stokes carried the ball for 672 yards and 27 touchdowns while being named First Team All-CIFL. Stokes played collegiately at Mercyhurst College (PA). As a Laker, Stokes started all four years and was named All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference three seasons while setting many rushing and kick return records.
"(Richard) Stokes was a big time player for the Erie Explosion during their championship run after a great college career at Mercyhurst," Axemen coach Robert Fuller stated. "He is experienced and he is a competitor."
Morgan, hailing from Chicago, IL, signs with the Axemen after his senior campaign at Ferris State University (MI). While a Bulldog, Morgan was named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams four times and was a preseason NCAA Division II All-American. During his senior year, he recorded 65 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, 10 and a half sacks, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. After his senior season performance, Morgan was signed by the New York Giants to participate in their 2013 Rookie Minicamp.
"Jordan (Morgan) is a very talented football player and brings a physical presence to our defensive line," Fuller reflected. "He is powerful but also very quick and athletic, there's a reason the Giants brought him to camp."
