Minnesota Axemen News Release
Bemidji, MN - The Bemidji Axemen have signed Minnesota native Cory Svihla and defensive back Khalid Harris to help bolster the team's defense.
Svihla, born in Bemidji and a graduate of Foley High School, attended Bethel University where he played outside linebacker. Svihla, a 6'3" 247 lbs. linebacker, started 38 games for the Royals and was named All-MIAC three times throughout his collegiate career career and earned DIII All-American honors.
After college, Svihla caught the eye of the Minnesota Vikings and was invited to their 2013 rookie mini-camp.
Harris, the Stockridge, GA native, played corner back and free safety at Kentucky Wesleyan College. Over four years, Harris, 5'11' 200 lbs., started 42 games for the Panthers and tallied 146 tackles and seven interceptions. He finished his collegiate career being named to the All-GLAC teams three times.
Last season, Harris started nine games for the IFL's Wyoming Cavalry. Through nine games, Harris finished fifth on the team in tackles (42) and fourth in pass breakups (3). Harris joins Tim Dandridge and Jajuan Harley in the Axemen defensive backfield.
"Cory and Khalid are pretty darn good football players and great character guys. It is great to be able to add a Minnesota native to our program in Cory and with Khalid we add an experience veteran that has been in the battles against the top teams in the league," Axemen head coach Robert Fuller said. "We're happy to have them join the Axemen family."
