Aviators Win Series after Nail Biter

July 9, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

Right off the bat, the Aviators showed how much they wanted to win their series against the Rex. They put up 3 runs in the top of the 1st to get a jump start doing just that. The Rex weren't going down easy; they started swinging as well and managed to put up 6 runs in the 1st on the Aviators defense.

When the Rex got on a scoring run, the Aviators seemingly fell off their own. Aviators defense allowed 3 more Rex runs in the 2nd inning when the offense produced none. Down 8-3 going into the third, the Aviators began to pick up momentum putting up runs in the next 4 consecutive innings. During that time the Rex were only able to add one to their tally.

By the end of the 6th , the Aviators turned a losing game into a tied game and then into a 2 run lead, 12-10, showing their desire to win the series.

The 7th inning started around hour 3 of the ball game, and by that point both teams seemed to be tiring. Neither team scored in the 7th or 8th, which means the Aviators kept their 2 run lead, but also that they only had a 2 run lead going into the 9th inning. The Aviators did not score in the 9th, but Matthew Patton and the Aviators defense were able to hold off the Rex to win the game, and the series.

The final score was Aviators 12 Rex 10.

The Aviators take flight tomorrow night at home for Bark in the Park vs. the Champion City Kings.
