Lafayette Aviators News Release
Lafayette held on to secure their first win of the season over the Springfield Sliders, 14-9.
Dissimilar to their first two games, the Aviators got off to a hot start from the plate, securing five runs to the Slider's two by the end of the 4th inning. In the 5th inning the home team took off, racking up 8 runs including a three-run homer from Bryce Ball, his second home run of the day. Ball's performance earned him player of the game honors.
When asked if he feels he can carry this type of performance into future games, Ball responded, "Absolutely."
"It's a great feeling... We've been working on a lot of different stuff and basically it just came down to carrying it over to the game."
The Sliders would run out of pitchers in the 6th inning, forcing infielder Adam Lopez to the mound. Strangely enough, that's when their fortunes started to change. Lopez would retire two batters via strikeout to close the inning, and finish with four K's before approaching his pitch limit and being pulled. During that stretch Springfield was able to narrow the gap to five runs, but the damage was done.
The Aviators' next game sees them heading out of state to face off against the Quincy Gems, Saturday at 6:35.
