BROOKLYN, NY - MARCH 15, 2011 -- New York Aviators, New York City's only minor league hockey team will host the Akwesasne Warriors to decide the 2010-11 Federal Hockey League Champions. The first two games of the championship series are scheduled for March 19-20 at the Aviator Sports and Event Center at the new Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn (3159 Flatbush Ave), where the Aviators posted a 21-1-1 record during the 47-game regular season. Saturday's game will begin at 7:30 pm, and the first puck will drop on Sunday at 5:00 pm.

The two teams played six times during the season with Akwesasne capturing the first four games by scores of 6-4, 6-4, 4-3 and 2-1. The Aviators won the final two match-ups 7-3, 6-4. The final victory helped catapult the Aviators past Akwesasne into first place.

The Aviators advanced to the championship series by surviving a thrilling first-round playoff series against Danbury. They overcame a 2-1 games deficit, and a 3-2 score in the 3rd period of game five to come back for a 4-3 victory. New York tied the score on the strength of a late third period goal by Nick Grove and an overtime goal by leading scorer Matt Puntureri to advance to the finals. After splitting the first two games in Brooklyn, Danbury took a 2-1 series lead with a 3-2 overtime win. But with their backs up against the wall, the Aviators dominated the Whalers 7-0 in game four before clinching the series at home.

Akwesasne's road to the finals was not as dramatic. They cruised past the 1000 Islands Privateers in four games including a 10-4 thrashingon the road in game four en route to netting 26 goals in the series. In the finals, Akwesasne will be boosted by the addition of former New Jersey Devils RW Pierre Dagenais, who was leading the FHL in scoring with 26 goals and 28 assists in the first 23 games of season before his promotion to Varlenga of the Norway Elite League. With that season over, he will return to Akwesasne for the Finals.

Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:30 pm and Sunday's game is slated for 5:00 pm. Tickets, which start at $8, are available at Aviator Sports & Events, by calling 718-758-7580 or by visiting www.aviatorsports.com or www.newyorkaviators.com . Parking is free and all concessions and souvenirs are reasonably priced.
