 Lafayette Aviators

Aviators Swept in Doubleheader

July 17, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

The Lafayette Aviators took on the Danville Dans for a doubleheader, but were unable to come away with a win in either contest.

The first game was nearly a shutout, with Lafayette finally able to generate some offense in the 7th and final frame.

The Aviators kept the game within reach for the most part, facing only a two-run deficit until the 6th inning. In the 6th, the Dans would hit a solo homer before loading the bases and getting two runners walked home.

The 7th inning is when Lafayette would finally get on the board thanks to a Zach Heeke RBI single. Tyler Powers would then advance home on a wild pitch, but that would be the end of the home team's surge.

The Aviators found their groove earlier in the second game, scoring one run each in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Danville, on the other hand, got started even earlier with three runs in the very 1st inning.

The difference was that the Dans would keep their offense firing all game while Lafayette's would fizzle out. Danville would score at least one run in each inning except the 3rd. The Aviators would get a run from Donovan Clark in the 5th after Clark stole two bases on back-to-back pitches.

Lafayette will hit the road Wednesday to play the Springfield Sliders; first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
