Prospect Lafayette Aviators

Aviators Sweep Double Dip from Champion City

July 12, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

Game one was a comfortable win for Lafayette, who only trailed for less than an inning early on. Champion City struck first with a 1st inning run, but the Aviators bounced back immediately with three of their own.

A couple scoreless innings went by before the Aviators would light up the scoreboard again, bringing in three runs to gain a big lead that they would maintain until the end.

The victory was a true team effort, as six different Aviators crossed the plate for their six runs.

Game two had far less offense in the early stages, but the same end result of a convincing Aviator victory. Lafayette wouldn't post their first score until the 3rd inning, thanks to a Milo Beam triple that brought home Nolan Schoonveld. They'd score again before the inning was over, and would enjoy an explosive fifth inning where they'd score five more runs.

It wouldn't stop there, however. Lafayette would also score three runs in the sixth inning to establish a double-digit lead. Champion City would score once in the 7th to avoid the shutout. Kam Smith led the way with three hits and four RBI.

The teams will face off again at Loeb Stadium on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
