Aviators Slow to Start in 5-4 Setback

June 11, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

In a game that saw just three total hits registered between both teams through the first five innings, the Lafayette Aviators weren't quite able to muster up enough offense to come away with the win against the visiting West Virginia Miners, losing 5-4.

David Zoz was highly efficient in the start, throwing only 54 pitches through five innings, but was pulled in the 6th after surrendering the game's first run.

This sparked the Miners' offense as they followed up by scoring three runs in the following inning, creating what would be their largest lead of the game.

The Aviators finally got on the board in the bottom of the 7th, entering the 8th with a 4-1 deficit. The home team surrendered another run before catching fire in the 8th, bringing Jordan Libman home on a bases loaded walk. This set up a 2-RBI single from Bryce Ball that narrowed the Miners' lead to 5-4, where it remained going into the 9th.

Unfortunately the final score would read no different, as the Aviators would fail to get a man on base in the 9th.
