Aviators Open with a Win

Lafayette Aviators News Release


The Lafayette Aviators started their 60 game season with a 10 to 7 win over the West Virginia Miners.

The Aviators opened up scoring with three runs in the top of the second inning, but the Miners responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Miners held the lead until sixth inning where the Aviators finally got back on the scoreboard with RBI from Blake Schmitt. Then after a scoreless seventh inning, the Aviator bats' got hot, with the Aviators scoring 5 runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Aviators never looked back, allowing a three runs in the bottom of the 8th, but ultimately sealing the deal with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 9th.

The win is huge for the team as they will try to carry this type of success into the rest of the season. The Aviators are back in action tomorrow at 6:35 PM as they play their second game in their four game series against the Miners. After this series, the Aviators will head to Danville for a two game series before returning to Lafayette for their home opener June 6th against Danville.
