Aviators Lose Sixth Straight
June 8, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release
The Lafayette Aviators dropped another one tonight, this time to the Springfield Sliders 6-5. With tonight's loss, the Aviators' losing streak stretches to six games.
Lafayette got off to a hot start, opening up a 3-0 lead after three innings. Jarrett Hammell pitched a solid first three innings, racking up four strikeouts and retiring batters in quick fashion. In the 4th, things began to turn around. West Virginia sent eight batters to the plate in the inning, earned three hits and tied the game at 3. Lafayette responded with a score of their own in the bottom of the inning, regaining the lead 4-3.
The Miners would tack on three more runs in the 6th to grab a lead that they would not relinquish. Jordan Libman of the Aviators made it home in the bottom of the 8th to narrow the gap to 6-5, but that's as close as Lafayette would come to regaining the lead.
Lafayette will hit the road Saturday for a matchup with the Springfield Sliders. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
