April 15, 2020 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

LAFAYETTE, IN - Purdue University announced today that all in-person events at their West Lafayette campus have been canceled through June 30 due to the coronavirus.

Purdue indicated an "event" is defined, but not limited to, camps, conferences, public events, meetings, nonessential business, social gatherings and sporting events which includes the Aviators games at Alexander Field which were slated to begin June 4.

"We understand and support the decision to place safety first," stated Aviators General Manager Ray Carolin. "We look forward to playing ball in July."

The Aviators are one of 12 teams in the Prospect League which feature top college players enhancing their skills during the summer. More than 1,500 former Prospect League players have gone on to play professional baseball with nearly 200 alumni playing in the major leagues.

The Prospect League is presently reviewing options for the 2020 season which include starting the season later than the presently scheduled May 28 date and extending the season into mid-August.

"The League is aware that the Aviators are unable to play at home until July and are working on alternatives which will allow the Aviators to play a full schedule of games," said Carolin.
