Aviators Home Games Broadcast Live on the Purdue Channel

May 29, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

Beginning with the home opener Wednesday night, all Aviators home games will be broadcast live on The Purdue Channel - Comcast 5. Purdue's Brian Lamb School of Communication and the Lafayette Aviators are giving students the opportunity to receive real world sports broadcasting experience, while also providing fans with an exceptional new channel to follow the team.

"This is an unparalleled, hands-on opportunity for Lamb School students to work with the Lafayette Aviators and it's yet another way to illustrate how our students are 'practically amazing!'," said Dr. Mattson, Lamb School Communication Head. "It's an excellent example of how the Lamb School tailors our program to the interests and needs of students while emphasizing for students how community engagement complements achieving their career aspirations."

This is the first year that the School of Communication has become involved in live remote production and the first time the school has ever worked in live sports production. While supervised by a professor and a school engineer, everything viewers see will be done by students.

"This opportunity we have with the Lafayette Aviators is how education should work," stated Doug Osman, Associate Professor. "There's no better way for Purdue University students to learn than by actually doing what they study. This is the type of learning that we emphasize in the Lamb School and we're glad we could carry this out with the Aviators."
