Lafayette Aviators News Release
Lafayette, IN - The Lafayette Aviators (24-23) fell to the DuPage Pistol Shrimp (26-17) in nine innings at Loeb Stadium on Thursday night. Bryce Konitzer (Illinois State) looked good on the mound to start for Lafayette, but his defense didn't help him out much. Two errors allowed three unearned runs to come across for DuPage and take an early lead. The Pistol Shrimp knocked three hits in the inning, but Konitzer didn't allow any impressive contact and managed to strike out the last two DuPage batters of the inning.
The Aviators got a run back in the bottom of the third inning when Chris Monroe (Illinois-Springfield) walloped a ball to left-center field that almost left the yard. Instead, DuPage's centerfielder Dave Toppel caught the ball on the warning track and Monroe had to settle for a sacrifice fly. Monroe's 42nd RBI cut the DuPage lead to 3-1.
The Aviators were kept off the board the rest of the game, and the Pistol Shrimp were able to piece together three consecutive innings with runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh.
