Aviators Crush Springfield 16-2

June 26, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

A good old-fashioned blowout took place at Loeb Stadium, with the Aviators winning handily over the Springfield Sliders 16-2.

Things started slow on the offensive end for the home team, who only registered one hit through the first four innings. Starting pitcher Patrick Smith delivered a solid performance with seven strikeouts, but by the fifth inning the visiting Sliders had built a 2-0 lead.

Then, everything went off the rails.

Lafayette scored five runs in the 5th inning, and followed it up with seven more in the 6th inning. Everyone got in on the action, with every member of the lineup posting at least one run during this stretch. Bryce Ball, Donovan Clark and Milo Beam scored twice each during those innings.

But the Aviators weren't done. They tacked on another three unanswered runs in the 7th, giving them a 15-2 lead that the Sliders wouldn't be able to overcome. One more run in the 8th pushed the final tally to 16-2.

Lafayette's next move is traveling to play the Kokomo Jackrabbits on Wednesday; first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
