Aviators Conquer Corn Crib

The Lafayette Aviators defeated the Normal CornBelters in their first matchup at The Corn Crib, by a score of seven to five.
The CornBelters jumped out to an early lead, scoring each of the first two innings. The Aviators then responded with a Kollyn All (Butler) RBI single to bring the Aviators within one. The CornBelters responded once again with a run in the bottom of the third. The Aviators then rattled off five consecutive runs. Kollyn All added two more RBIs, along with a Matt Mackey (Eastern Illinois) RBI on a hit by pitch. Blake Schmitt (Purdue) also added two runs, one on his first home run of season, and another on a single. Aviators' Starting Pitcher Bryce Grossius (Southeast Missouri State) had a phenomenal start, going four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven batter while only allowing one earned run.
The CornBelters trailed by three runs with three innings remaining, but made things interesting, driving in a run after the seventh inning stretch, closing the lead to two with two innings remaining. Alex Dorethy (Western Illinois) pitched a scoreless inning and a third in his first relief appearance this year for the Aviators. He was followed up by his fellow Leatherneck teammate Justin Foy, Who closed the game out for the Aviators. Foy has been one of the most consecutive pitchers for the Aviators, rocking an ERA under 1.80.
The Aviators are back on the road tomorrow playing two games in Terre Haute, making up for a game that was previously cancelled due to inclement weather earlier this season.
