Avengers Will Host First-Round Playoff Game on July 2
June 18, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- By virtue of the Chicago Rush's 66-57 victory over the Colorado Crush on Monday night, the Los Angeles Avengers will host a first-round game in the 2007 Arena Football League Playoffs at STAPLES Center on Monday, July 2.
That contest against a yet-to-be-determined opponent will kick off at 7 p.m. (PT) and be televised on ESPN2. Tickets can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, the STAPLES Center Box Office, online at ticketmaster.com or laavengers.com, or by calling 888-AVENGERS.
Los Angeles (9-6), which has locked up fourth-place in the American Conference standings, will conclude the regular season on Saturday, June 23, at STAPLES Center versus the Utah Blaze (7-8). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on FSN Prime Ticket.
It is possible that the Avengers and Blaze will have a rematch in the first-round of the playoffs. Either Utah or Colorado (8-7), which wraps up the regular season by hosting Dallas (14-1) on Monday, June 25, will be L.A.'s postseason opponent on July 2.
The Avengers, who have earned playoff berths in five of their last six seasons, did not qualify last year after going 5-11.
Twelve of the AFL's 19 teams advance to the playoffs, six from each conference. The league's four division winners earn the top two seeds in each conference and first-round byes.
